Help with Publishing
in E-Book Format and Print
Services from Leonore Dvorkin
- Proofreading and editing: $25/hr or $3.50 per page (1 page = 250 words)
- Proofreading consists of making simple changes to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
- Editing consists of making more extensive changes to the text, such as shortening it, moving parts around, etc., naturally with the author's approval.
- Up-front payment is not required, but if the project is expected to take a long time, partial payment at some point is appreciated.
- I accept checks or PayPal payments.
- As of July 2011, I have edited six books, both fiction and non-fiction, for other people. References upon request.

Additional Notes
- Marketing is the author's responsibility. Many e-books are marketed via word of mouth.
- On Smashwords and Amazon, the book's price is set by the author. Low is generally good. Our own books are $2.99 each.
- Royalties paid by both companies are excellent, between 70% and 85% of the cover price, far higher than what traditional publishers pay.
- Smashwords pays royalties four times a year. Payment is by PayPal or printed check.
- Amazon pays monthly. Payment is by check or direct deposit to your bank account.
- Smashwords notifies the author by e-mail every time a book is sold.
- The e-book market and sales of e-book readers, such as the Kindle and the Nook, are growing very rapidly.
- Readers of e-books typically read more books per year than readers of printed books do.
- In May 2011, Amazon announced that they are now selling more e-books on their site than printed books.
