The sculpture used in the cover art is a netsuke, a traditional Japanese art form.
This netsuke is an ivory carving of a monkey depicting the admonition to see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil.
It was carved by Kaigyokusai Masatsugu (1813-92), one of the most famous of the netsuke artists.
